No Filter... No Smoking!

Over the past month or two I have been tirelessly trying to find an indoor area to enjoy luxury tobacco. My latest idea was to contact the Casion on the Aboriginal Reserve just outside the city and see if they had a cigar lounge. I thought the chances were pretty good as they do allow smoking in the facility (they don't need to answer to no government hahaha). When I asked if I would be allowed to smoke my pipe, they told me that if it doesn't have a filter, you can't smoke it. In other words, no pipes or cigars, cigarettes only.
Well, back to the drawing board.

Well, even though the word they choose to use surrounded the filter, I am pretty sure they do not allow cigars and pipes period. I'm pretty sure if I went in smoking a pipe with a filter, they would still ask me to put it out.

That is weird. We hit Tunica once a year. Wife likes slots I like free drinks. Anyway I smoke my pipe in all 8 casinos and get nothing but compliments

Yeah, the thing is, you used to be able to smoke anywheres. Now all that's changed. Some places more so; others, less so. I basically don't expect my pipe to be tolerated in public anywhere. I don't even bother to ask. As I like to smoke my pipe throughout the day, I just avoid the public. Period. No people, no worries. That means I don't go out to bars, restaurants, sporting events, hotels, theme parks, concerts, etc. Saved me a boat load of money, I'll tell you. Course I gotta go out to work. And I can't smoke there. But that's OK, because the way I figure, they PAY me not to smoke. And I guess I can live with that. Essentially in today's world if smoking a pipe makes you an asocial stigmatized animal, then so be it. I've been a loner for most of my life. And smoking a pipe in this day and age just seems to confirm it. What friends I do have tend to be smokers of one sort or another. So I can feel free smoking my pipe in front of them. As for the public, there's very little there that I seek or need, aside from the general trips to the grocery store or gas station. I'm happy with the situation. And at my age I don't have any expectations. Course, when I was younger it was different. But these days I need very little aside from a warm pipe to keep me happy. Age tends to sort out what's important.

What this suggests to me is that the people who legislate the laws, rules, regulations don't have clear

intentions nor motivations. So when they assign enforcement, the authorities have no idea what they

are supposed to enforce. It would be noble but extremely time consuming and boring to have filtered

pipes considered in the same way as filtered cigarettes. It's sounds like people are neither thinking nor

communicating clearly. This all sounds most familiar.

Honestly, if they say it requires a filter than show them the filter on your pipe. If those are their rule, then you are in the right there and you can appeal it up the management/tribal chain. If it specifically bars pipes you are out of luck -- but if it's just a "filters only" policy, you should be good. I would suggest, however, that you smoke something with a decent room note.

Not only do various makes of pipes have filters, they pollute the air (and the person,) a darn sight less then any filtered cigarettes ever would.

They basically said YES, just get a Sav and light up.

We have a casino in the town where I work. I rarely go there but once in awhile as my sister works there. I have never had anyone make any mention of me smoking my pipe in there. Smells better than the stale cig smoke IMO.

So I guess if you smoke non filtered Camels or RYO w/o filter you'd be out of luck as well?
I often think about how good we had it in the 70's and 80's. Didn't realize it then. I loved to work at my desk smoking my pipe. Heck I used to smoke it in the grocery store while shopping. Things have changed!

Remember smoking cars on trains? Smoking sections on planes? Busses were all smoking section.

I myself would probably just claim that the pipe has a filter, then just smoke it. Though it seems that they are going to be funny about it anyway.
In terms of smoking in public now. I live in the UK so one can barely smoke in ones house without facing some form of confrontation; at university I put a sock over my smoke alarm and smoke in my room, which is naughty but hey i'll open a window. Though I do like traveling, mainly Germany and Austria, where the pipe smoker is held in very high regard, often I have smoked in Bars, restaurants and nightclubs which is fantastic. Faced no problems, infact i'm essentially just left to drink and smoke, I have nobody coming up to me asking if they can "Try a puff" which is really quite nice.

I can't stand how cigar and pipe smokers are treated amongst the "smoking" communities. Cigarette smokers do more to harm our hobby and because of their poor actions we have so many smoking laws and bans. However, when smoking is allowed, they will only allow cigarette smoking. Its absurd! Even the casino I go to every year for a weekend trip with the guys; I noticed this past year they have little signs at all the tables that say no pipes and cigars. Yet there are hundreds of people smoking cigarettes. Its just stupid!
