What I loved so much about law school was how much it mirrored the philosophy of the Christian Church I was raised up in.Beware the morality police!
On the first day of law school students are taught:
1. As a general rule the government cannot compel you to do anything.
Yes, we must pay taxes, register for the draft, and during natural disasters we might have to evacuate, but a strong swimmer can walk up a pond where a little girl is drowning, and watch her drown. We do not have to do, twiddly squat.
2. As a rule, then we can do any damned thing we want to do, we can dance naked at midnight with wild women in the graveyard,,,worship a golden calf,,,,do just anything,,,unless there’s a valid law against it.
That is freedom. We don’t have to do anything and can do anything we like if it’s not illegal.
