For my pipe smoking preferences, I tend to focus on the process and the relaxation it brings. I'm a tactile person and just enjoy the feel of the pipe in my hand, the bowl warmth and the challenge of getting an easy smoke from the pipe. My palate is not that well developed and admit that in my earliest days (like many), I tended to lean on aromatics as I didn't know much better.
When I joined the forum last year, I was determined to expand my tobacco experience to include non-aromatics and hoped to find milder blends that were not nic-bombs. I have foraged into various blends with some success and failures. I don't know enough about the various leaves to say that I prefer VA over Lat and really don't have a wide variety of options at home. I've read a lot of the tobacco reviews not only in the forum, but at the dedicated review site. Again, due to my inexperience, I can't say that I fully understand all of them.
So with that somewhat lengthy background, I wanted to ask forum members for their ideas on potential blends that in a simple 20-30 minute smoke will not put me into a Nic induced "daze." For example, I've tried Haunted Bookshop (love the name) and found that while it's a mild flavor blend, the nic content is more than I want to experience. I have to admit that with all the Black Frigate talk that it intrigues me, but I'm not getting a sense of the nic value it contains.
Thanks in advance for your ideas; this post is not meant to solicit any free samples, I really would like to hear your opinions.

If you want a Virginia flake with almost no nicotine, go for Newminsters Superior Navy Flake, a honey flavor on a golden Virginia.

If you want a low nicotine latakia, maybe try the Frog Morton blends. It's a slight aromatic crossover latakia mix of things. A lot of the new guys (as well as the pipe veterans) at our pipe club really like those.

The above suggestions are great, and I really don't have anything to add to that. However, when I started smoking again a few years ago, I found that I was fairly intolerant of nicotine. I read reviews on so many blends I wanted to try but they always seemed to be fairly high in the nic dept. So what I did was smoke very small amounts of them at first, and gradually my body acclimated to the nicotine, and now I almost never get the spins or queasy from smoking them. Don't be afraid to try some that you're interested in, just smoke a smaller amount, or get a small bowled pipe, oh and try to have something in your stomach too.

I also prefer less nic - I like large pipes and long smokes.

I find Dunhill Flake pretty friendly.

The most "serious" English with a small dose is "Black House". Very tasty and complex, won't leave you spinning.

I can smoke reasonably amounts of Dark Twist and Club Blend from Mac Baren without issue. Navy Flake is maybe a touch stronger.
Wilderness and Legends, both McClelland, are pretty friendly too, as is their "Jubilee" if you like something a little more on the oriental side.

When I go to pipe club meetings, some guys will whip out these twists and ropes, and it gets all chest beating and barbaric yawps. But, I never show up for a meeting without some chocolate in my pocket. It's my secret spin stopper. From my understanding nicotine overdose causes a drop in blood sugars or something like that, and a bite of chocolate can offset it, and get you back on the horse. Maybe worth a try?

For starters, do you like flavored tobacco, aromatics, or non-aromatic where the tobaccos provide all the flavor? There are mild versions of both of these. Low nicotine is usually denoted by a mild designation at online retail sites. The selection on these is vast. Two of thousands of milder aromatics include Edward G. Robinson blend and Iwan Ries Three Star Blue. Two of thousands of milder non-aromatics include pipesandcigars (Russ O.'s) Log Cabin and their tub non-aro Chestnut (Home and Hearth Midtown series). You have hours and weeks of online retail tobacco browsing ahead of you. Visit smokingpipes.com, pipesandcigars.com, iwanries.com, cupojoes.com and others of our sponsors. You can click to them directly from the left side of Forums, from the red lettering.

Any of the Sutliffe Private Stock blends, aro, non, and English/balkan have zero nic. Just like puffing on warm air. Should be right up your alley.

Thanks to all who have replied so far! I really appreciate the suggestions and will look more closely at the mentioned blends through the online sites.
Keep them coming (I have yet to see Death Metals encouragement for Royal Yacht).

On our website (www.pipesandcigars.com), we differentiate between Flavor Intensity and Strength, so if you look at any tobacco on our site, check the Strength rating, which is a reflection of nicotine impact (based on our staff ratings). I hope this can be helpful for you.

@blendtobac - Russ, I appreciate the interpretation of the Strength rating. Flavor wise, I can tolerate many things and sometimes engage strong taste (former German beer drinker and I tried a lot). It's the nic that I have low tolerance for and knowing that strength goes to nic is most helpful.
@mso - thanks for your suggestions; to answer your question about flavor, aro, non - I'm honestly open to a variety of experiences. Truthfully, I feel like I'm behind the game because I limited myself so much to Cavendish and Cherry mixes most of my pipe life. It's been a rather entertaining last few months diving into samples and tins I've collected.
@cosmic - Chocolate, now that's something I can get behind.
I think browsing tobacco options just opened up for me even more.
Really appreciate everyone's time!

Also - most of McClellands line is pretty light on the nic.

The Matured Virginas are a good start for some of the best tasting Virgina tobaccos on the planet with a very mild nicotine strength. For a latakia blend try either of the 3 oaks (or try both to compare Syrian and Cypriot)

Consider yourself fortunate; you have opened up a whole world of light blends that are delicious!
I would go find some Doblone d'Oro and enjoy that luscious flavor.
Or maybe even some Prince Albert... or the lighter Dunhill blends.
The world is your oyster, enjoy it to the fullest! God is with you.

Mac Baren Club Blend is a nice, spicy Virginia-forward coarse roll cake that's moderate-to-light on the nicotine. Yummy stuff! (Smoke it slow, though.)

If you're seeking low nicotine blends, I'd recommend only smoking tobacco that hasn't much nicotine in it. If you require specifics, I'd recommend posting on a pipe forum to see what it's members say. I've heard they can be helpful.

Quite possibly the most profound and enlightening thing I've ever read on the Interwebs. Huzzah sir!
