ok. i am way too green to write a review... but i want to voice an opinion i have... the first tobacco i bought wan mab baron dark twist roll cake. i stumbled across a pic of the stuff somewhere and it looked so unique, and good that it inspired me to get some, and to start smoking a pipe... and i did... i like it. its mellow, and tasty. and the tin note(thats the term for aroma right?)is wonderful. its hard to keep lit though.. anyway, this is not about mac barons dark twist, its about newminster superior round slices... i am certain that newminster bought a boatload of mac barons dark twist and are selling it in bulk. my newminster superior round slices smell, look and smoke identical to the barons dark twist... but cheaper. i also read that mac baron is working with newminster.... so does anyone think that they are the exact same baccy?

lol, glad to hear they're not the same. As soon as I work my way through all of Russ's and Greg's tobacco blends I'll venture out into the other less known tobaccos.
It's gonna take me a while lol. But their low price does make me a bit wary.
Glad to hear you like it.

I feel your pain Shawn...a good desert baccy that don't bite is sutliff private stock molto dolce. Its rather inexpensive too. Candy sweet with a cinnamon aftertaste.

I recently got 8oz of Anniversary Kake, but made a promise to myself not to smoke any of the new tobacco I got until I smoke all my samples first... Grrr
Does it smell like the soft Fig Newton cookies to you? In the tin, not while burning.

it smells better than fig newtons spartan... i wish i could stain my home to smell like its tin note:) a figgy/raison/chocholate/tobacco shop smell. and my kids always come around when im burning it. thanks much chris.. when i get my 50 posts in maybe we can work a trade out. i spent 200+ bucks in a week on the new hobby and need to calm down. i have a lb of tobacco, but only 4 varieties an 2 are really similar cake roll slices and a pouch of middletons cherry blend and that stuff tastes like chemicals. so i want to do some oz for oz trading once i meet my post quota:)

Sorry but I have to resurrect this post to say that Newminster Superior Round Slices is really nice. It's the first round flake I have tried and while it bit slightly, it tasted quite good. I hope the bite doesn't get any worse because I don't want to stop smoking this stuff.

i thought newmister was taking over peter stokeby. i like ps bullseye and navy flake. i ordered 2oz each of round slices and the navy flake from newmister, i did not care for either one. they were notthing like the ps types, more like the mcbaren types. i have smoked mcbarens dark twist and their navy flake in the tins, something about the taste i just do not care for. i know many people loke mcbarens tobacs, i just do not care for them. iam confused now. is newmister tobac related to ps or mcbaren? i think the tobac i got tasted like mcbarens and not like ps. i wished that i did like it.
take care.
mike.

Ok, Here is what Nerminster is. Let me start off by saying that Peter Stokkebye is a bulk tobacco companie. Villager Stokkebye is a seperate pipe tobacco company that switched over to cigars. They still have the 1888 line and some other stuff I think but they got together with MacBarren and released a whole new line of tobacco under the name Newminster and the tobacco is blended by MacBarren. I think that's how it goes.

If I remember this correctly, Peter Stokkebye tobaccos are now distributed by Lane. Villager, in an effort to replace the Stokkebye line with something similar, developed the Newminster line in conjunction with Mac Baren. I smoke LTF and LNF just about every day, and also enjoy the Newminster Navy Flake.

I really like these, but they burn hot. And bite a little, too. The flavor is rich, brown-sugar sweet and redolent of a hardwood fire.
Tonight, I mixed two little coins with some Solani 633 (a VaPer), and it was less bitey.
Anyone tried these little firecrackers after some aging?

I'm trying these again, in a different pipe, with drier disks. I really, really like the flavor and aroma of this blend, and I'm willing to put up with a little sharpness in the mouthfeel.
However, I'm wondering how these compare (if anyone has tried them both) with the NEW Three Nuns, which has KDF instead of the old Perique.
