Congrats on the birth of your son. Dogs have an instinct to protect little ones. My Sheppard watched over my kids like a nanny. If anyone came onto the property while the kids were outside, he would go after them and scare them shitless. He would jump in the pool while they were playing if he thought they were in danger. It was amazing at how possessive he was about them. My Sheppard was all white and 120 pounds and he was so gentle with all my kids, they would pull on him, lay on him and he would just lick them to death. It was pretty cool.
