Hello,

I just smoked my pipe for the first time this month and since I didn't know what tobacco to get, I got Dunhill morning pipe, escudo navy rolls, and the corncob pipes with burley kake.
Well, the Dunhill morning pipe tastes like cigarette tobacco to me.

The burley kake was pretty good, but I still don't know if that's an aromatic, or not.

The escudo navy rolls (which I got just because it looked cool) was also great-tasting.
With those 2 good ones, I wanted to ask if you can recommend similar tobacco to try. Aromatic or not, whichever is close to these!!
Another question. To me the morning pipe seemed too dry compared to the other 2. So my question is, can I open the tin and put it in my cigar humidifier??? Will it help?? I couldn't find a storage humidity level. Sine I previously smoked cigars, I got used to storing that tobacco in a pretty controlled humidity storage. I just don't know if that same humidifier will help the pipe tobacco too??
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks a lot.

I typically smoke house blends from local tobacconists so unfortunatley I can't help you with taste, BUT
I find the best trick for bringing some more moisture to dry tobacco that wasn't closed right or maybe sat on the shelf to long to be putting the open tin in a closed container (tupperware works great) with a damp cloth overnight.

+1 on Roth....YOu may also like some Virginia's as well. I really like Orlick Golden Slices using the cube cut method right now. Also, I just tried some From Morton Out on the Town and to me that was a very nice smooth smoke with some nice flavor.

Since you enjoy perique -- the leaf in Escudo that gives it its peppery spice and richness -- you might also enjoy Dunhill's Nightcap. It has more latakia than Early Morning Pipe, and it also includes a goodly portion of perique.
I can't smoke perique, but lots of folks here love it. If that proves to be something you really like, I'm sure you can get lots more recommendations.
Part of the pleasure in pipe smoking, I think, comes from learning what the different tobaccos taste like, finding blends that highlight your favorites, and just exploring.
Welcome to the hobby and the forum!

Welcome Charger!
Good find on the Escudo.
Give your EMP some alone time. It took me a few months to get back to mine. When I had first tried it, I didn't really appreciate it. After I had gotten a lot more practiced at smoking I found I enjoyed it. Now it's something I like to keep on hand for that occasional break from my Va/Pers.

I am also a newbie (about 2 months old) and my suggestion is to buy several 1 or 2 oz samples and try a lot of different tobaccos. Your taste buds will gravitate to what they like and will likely change over time too. Right now, I smoke 100% aromatics (Boswells, Edwards, local blends and 1Q). I've recently tried a Virginia and it didnt work out so well for me. It tasted harsh and bitter so I am going to store it for about a year and give it another go. If I still dont like it, then I'll see if someone here wants to trade for it. Welcome to the PAD & TAD obsession.

Welcome to the forums!

You've gotten good advice already and +1 for Luxury Bullseye Flake, good stuff.

If you were to pt that EMP in with your cigars, you would probably have a bunch of sticks that taste like latakia...

GREAT!!!!!

Thanks all for the recommendations, I'll give them a try and we'll see where do I go from here.

I should have clarified that the burley kake I how was from the "pack" from pipes and cigars that comes with 3 corncobs. That was a great investment since the cobs smoke great to get started.

Also, is there an English mixture that could be good for me??? I just don't want to say that I "don't like them" just because the early morning pipe was not to my tastes.
Thanks a lot.

A hundred of them, or so. But I'll narrow it down to GLPease's Westminster, Dunhill's Standard Mixture Medium or London Mixture, and Rattray's 3 Noggins.

I like my latakia very subtle.
...

Another fine choice that I enjoy is Heart & Home Black House.
"Subtle" in the latakia area is not an adjective I would apply to Black House!
EMP is, from all I understand, very low in latakia. As a matter of fact, it's not even mentioned in the tin description.

Sweet Oriental carefully blended with Bright and Red Virginias, pressed and lightly stoved. Great as the
Code:

arousing the palate for the further pleasures of the day.
IMO,with no latakia it's not what is generally referred to as English Mixture.
Maybe try some Squadron Leader or Old Dublin (I consider these to be fine all day latakia blends), along with something like Dunhill Standard or London. I notice the Frogs have also been suggested. I don't care for 'em, but I know a lot of folks do.

You did well with escudo..I, along with many others think its the best virginia/perique (VaPer)

If I may suggest occasionally check the "what are you smoking" threadand see what gets smoked alot, then research those and try what sounds interesting to you...I still use this method
