Newbie Trying to Understand Hand Made Pipe Price Values

Just to look at the subject from a different angle -- what you get for your money when you buy a pipe -- it has always fascinated me the good smoking characteristics and fairly sophisticated design features available at basket pipe and cob prices. My herd of pipes reaches at least into the quality artisan range, but some of the factory pipes and lower tagged briars really show their worth over time, becoming more distinctive in appearance when the series is no longer produced.
