Those karibi lighters look really nice. I should have mentioned I have a really hard time with most non Zippo wheel mechanism lighters, including bic. I have an old 1926 Clark lighter that seems to have a mechanism same as the karibi. I love that lighter but I don't use it because I find it so difficult to use the wheel.
Just got lucky and bought a bugatti bl-300 with original box and leather case for an obscenely good price so I guess I'll be using that for now. Not an angled pipe lighter, but good quality and easy enough for me to work. Thanks guys.

Interesting on Bugati- mostly torch lighters. The BL-300 shows on Amazon for $90. Another one for over $500!! Didn't try to figure it out; they look and sound the same.

Zippos are easy to maintain, good value and as long as you let it lite and burn for a second, add no noticeable tastes. This last point needs to be reinforced about allowing the sulfur on a match to dissipate, too. That said, I find I can control the flame with matches better than with a lighter, so I buy loads of inexpensive wooden matches from my local dollar store.

Yup. I have no love for Zippos any more. I have a Peterson Old Boy style that I enjoy and it's super reliable. That only gets used on rare occasions, though. BIC 100%.

OK, OK OK. I can't believe no one has suggested that an alternative to the Zippo, fuel dispencer, is the Nimrod Commander. A similar flint/liquid fuel lighter which holds the fuel much longer, much longer. Alright back in my bunker...incoming!!!

Thanks jpmcwjr. I'll post pics of the lighter and case in a few days, The bl-300 is black and I believe the pic you poster is the bl-320. I just need to dig through the garage for my camera. I think $500 is insane for that lighter. $100ish is normal nib. Got mine for $18, and that's why I couldn't pass it up. Its used of course.

One handed operation is easily learned with the Nimrod. Slide it open with the forefinger and ignite. Or, you can hold it across your palm with the third and fourth finger and separate it with the thumb and first fingers. Or, as one would when reloading a pistol or revolver with one hand incapacitated, stick it under your arm or between your thighs and separate the case. Either of the latter work when you are hunkered down in a blind. You could even clamp one end between your teeth and slide it open.
But, if everything else fails, tuck the fly pole under your arm and use two hands.

My new used bugatti lighter. Not exactly what I envisioned when I was thinking pipe lighter but its really easy for me to use and the price was right so no complaints. Came with box, leather case and even original receipt from Aug. 8 2007. In a week I'll celebrate its 10th aniversary with a bowl of McClelland 40th anniversary.

I have a box of butane lighters that stopped working - some pricey, others bonus gifts with cigar orders. I have a Nimrod as well.
What I use is a Zippo with a custom image or kitchen matches. The Zippo company will customize your lighter for a few bucks. Select from hundred of designs or logos: Scouts, military, fraternal organizations, abstract art or dozens of other categories. Or send them you own image. Mine sports an image of St. Dominic, reproduced from a Fra Angelico painting. You can get pretty much what you can imagine for far less than a hundred bucks. https://www.zippo.com/collections/customize-it

I would give away the butanesn - or trade for a tin of Frog Morton Cellar. (Think that is the one with the block cut from a whisky barrel stave) The Nimrod I'm more partial to. It is unused in the original box. PM me if interested.

My wife had a Zippo customized for me before she passed away. I don't use it because I'm afraid of losing it. I went to the link and the variety of lighters is incredible. Thanks to my OCD nature I made it to page 16 (and eventually 49) where I found a wood grain Zippo pipe lighter that I will be ordering shortly. Thanks brass.
