Thought I would share this in case anyone else having the same issue. I got my first new pipe a month ago, a Savanelli straight, and started smoking. I tried both balsa and charcoal filters but found 3/4 through the bowl I was having to draw way to hard, like a thick milkshake, to the point I couldn't draw and then ended up with tongue bite.
When I went to clean and investigate, both filters I found a lot of moisture which was pulling the filter and they were blocked. Smominh without a filter seemed to help but bottom of chamber would be wet post smoke.
After a little scan through this forum I decided to try and leave my tobacco, st bruno, out for only half hr before packing.
Moisture gone. Now filters back in and enjoying each bowl. Lesson learnt, check tobacco moisture and allow to dry if necessary.
