Newbie to the Forums and smoked my first English Tonight. In the past I have always smoked aromatics but tonight I was at a cigar event and well took the plunge and bought some English figuring those around me wouldn't mind since they were smoking stogies. WOW, it was awesome. I've been wanting something with a little more robustness and kick. Can't say it has a great pouch smell, or even good smoke aroma but WOW, I can see why English is popular. I think my blend is on the light to medium side so it wasn't too overpowering, but I can definitely see English joining my rotation. But I reeked afterwards.

Yeah I had the "people smoke this?" moment with latakia as well. Like you I got "it" right away. Now im addicted to the dark leaf. Welcome to the forums.

Professor, welcome to the forum
When my wife comes home after work, she kisses me hello and says 'you stink'. Just about every day!
I don't think it matters whether its English or Va's
What's wrong with her?
:)

Welcome aboard, my friend. I smoked aromatics for 20 years before discovering Balkan blends. Fortunately for me, the Better Half enjoys the manly smell of Latakia on my 'stache.

Welcome to the forum Professor. Since you are branching out I would suggest you try a Virginia/Perique blend like Escudo. That has some nice bold flavors and is spicy and sweet at the same time. It is a great blend that I think you might enjoy.

Welcome. Yes, tobacco is like cheese - the worse it smells, the better the flavor. As a budding Latakiofile, you may also enjoy Dunhill's London Mixture and Nightcap. Also C&D's Pirate Kake, Star of the East, Odessa and Engine 99. And GL Pease's Westminster, Charing Cross and Abingdon. Enjoy the dark leaf.

Dude welcome and you definitely need to smoke some Frog Morton's Cellar, Sam Gawith Squadron Leader and Dunhill Early Morning Pipe.
Also make sure you try some Hearth & Home Blackhouse as well as Magnum Opus.
Then you can branch into more Oriental leaning blends like Yenidje Highlander.
welcome to the wonderful world of English and Balkan style tobacco's.
Definitely also take Harris' opinion of branching into some Virginia's and Virginia/Perique mixtures.

Welcome to Forum. I am glad that you enjoyed you English blend. You can spend the next several years trying all the English blends since there are so many. Some English blends are oriental forward, others latakia forward and many other English blends have a fair amount of Virginia and perique. Try GLP Westminster and for a real treat try McClelland's Blue Mountain. Have fun and enjoy!

Same here. When I opened my first tin of a latakia heavy blend I thought "This smells gross". But I tried it, and loved it. The smell grew on meas well. I smoke only English and latakia heavy blends, with the occasional Va or VaPer, and the rare aromatic.
