Welcome from the beautiful Willamette Valley of Oregon!
You are not the only one who has found pipe smoking helpful with chronic pain.
After 47 years of being treated with opioid pain medications from the Veterans Administration, the VA has decided opioids do not work on chronic . I asked my doctor if those 47 years were malpractice? He declined to respond!
I find that pipe smoking is helpful in dealing with chronic pain. Perhaps it's the relaxation afforded from a good pipe and a nice Virginia tobacco that helps to ease my pain.

I would like to recommend Bali shag tobacco to use in your Kiseru.
I always used the blue pouch, easy to ball up with the shag cut.
Bali shag halfweisen, was always easier to find than the Kizimi.

Welcome Pat!

Love my tsuge Kiseru while driving home from work,

Pipes smoking is a great remedy for chronic pain. Relax, focus, and increase the tolerance levels. Good strategy my friend, and good luck on your journey.

I'm Pat, a VERY new Smoker as in 4 weeks ago! I've been a Chronic Pain patient since the 70's and decided to try tobacco as a coping method since I've run out of everything except illegal stuff. I'd always liked the scent of pipe tobacco and decided to use that method. I decided the most difficult method I could think of as to not use it like most folks use cigarettes....the Kiseru.
Works quite well and the nicotine hit knocks Pain down at last 2 points for me. I figure with this method I'm decreasing the chance of tolerating the nicotine as well as looking spiffy;>!
I do have a bent stem and a Churchwarden but honestly my system isn't up to that much nicotine(reminded me of my one and only experience with cigars;>)and fin the amt allowed by Kiseru just right at present. The only big problem is getting the tobacco designed for them. Shag works ok but I'm ordering a "herb cutter" as to expand the choices for my Smoke.
So I sit on my porch overlooking the Tellico reservoir with a "cuppa" of good Tea(esp fond of Oolongs) watching the waterbirds stop off on their Migration..
Cheers,

Maybe a bit of both;>. Just finished a bowl of 'Nutty Irishman" in my Churchwarden. Nice pipe but the balance is off. Standard experience with ANYTHING ordered online....

Thank you! The stress has been upped with my partner of 27 yrs on the hospital pending nursing home admission. I find that the different pipes give a different experience. Especially with kiseru your breath is REALLY important. It's like breathing Meditation. Appreciate the thoughts though right now finding time to myself to Smoke is hard enough. Time to "Internet"?

Welcome from Virginia. I also deal with chronic pain and find nicotine invaluable. I’ve always wanted to get into the Kiseru style of smoking, it seems perfect for my personality. Welcome.

Welcome, Pat, from Iowa. I'm really glad pipes are helping with your situation.

I bought a kiseru (or received one as a gift, can't remember) in college, but information on how to use them was a little more scarce back then. So I never really gave it a fair try, and now it's lost...

Hello from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I also suffer long-term chronic pain (spinal issues) and have found pipe smoking to assist in pain management. Perhaps not alot, but it certainly helps mentally 🙏🏻

Best wishes for the future 😊
