What can i expect at the N.Y. pipe show this year? I have never been to a pipe show but have the time to attend this one.

I'll be there for the first time. A group is also going over to JR Cigars in nearby Whippany for smoking (mid afternoon?). I was going to post a sign on a table around 11 AM for a "forum meet & greet", look for that. I'm driving up from Hagerstown, MD. (up to Harrisburg PA and across 78)

I am off to London Tuesday night for 4 days samcoffeeman so I will be bulk buying Condor. Just PM me a day before the show and I will bring a few packs down with me. I am easy to spot with the battered tweed coat, large fedora hat and wool scarf with an ancient pipe stuck in my mouth! As my wife says I subscribe to the Columbo school of dress sense!

I'd like to gently point out that the New York Pipe Show and the Chicago Pipe Show aren't in New York and

Chicago. This isn't because the pipe smokers in the respective cities aren't patriotic to their cities. This is

because the in-city venues are expensive and sometimes difficult to access for people who drive into town.

So these shows really do represent their respective great American cities, it's just that the cities down't always

manage to welcome events that don't have deep, deep pockets. So a salute to New York and Chicago,

and the actual host cities/towns, for making the best accommodations that they can. Pipe shows are some of

the best parts of the hobby, so get to the one nearest you, and maybe others, if you can. I'm looking forward

to April here in the mid-South.

For those going to JR's in Whippany. About 1/2 before you get to JR's is, in my opinion, the best Italian restaurant in the USA, Il Capricio. I spent many lunches and dinners there. Always fantastic. Not sure if I can make the show as I'm playing nurse to my wife but I'll see how the week plays out.

Sam - Zach, Andrew and I are pondering logistics for NY/Newark, and the subsequent JR-Whippany thang. I'm thinking of bottling Biotene and trading it for tobacco: maybe a tin for 2 oz - no aros. :)

All you guys are going and I can't make it. :( It's on a Saturday, and I have to work.
I will, however, be at the Chicago pipe show.
My first time.

I'm looking for some Crown Achievement as well and a refill on Princes Street (although I hear now Dick @ Chief Catonnah is sick).

See all of you at the show!

I'll be coming across PA on I-78 if anyone needs a ride (although I don't smoke in my car, sorry!).

A suggestion or two: Don't forget to pick up cards from pipe and tobacco venders; you'll regret it if you don't. Don't forget

to take along two or three small pipes of your own for sampling tobacco. Don't forget some small cash for raffle tickets.

Leave enough time to make the rounds of venders, take a smoke break or two at least, and time for conversations that can

go on. You might also want a small notebook to supplement info on cards. Don't forget a goody bag as you leave, if they

have them (they will). And don't forget to leave when they start to load up and lock the door.
