Love them Dr. Grabows. I think they may be the largest briar pipe factory in terms of output in the U.S. these days, up there in Sparta, N.C. My favorite series is the Royalton, with acrylic stems, and particularly fine shaping on the no-bead-line bulldog. Whoever turned mine clearly loves pipes, shaped just so. That's a fine trio of them in the OP.
That is a nice trio. I have several Dr. Grabows that I enjoy. None as nice as yours but they are very serviceable and I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up more in the future.
Have several including some old patent eras from the 30s, one from the late 50s or early 60s and a pair from the 80s. All smoke perfectly with no issues. The 80s are slightly ugly with dark unappealing finishing but still perfectly usable and they belonged to my late father so they are pretty special despite the less appealing appearance.
Yep. Have a few, one unsmoked westbrook bent billiard, a riviera apple, and this old El Dorado Ajustomatic my dad inherited from someone in the 60s. Cleaned up it smokes just great, used it on the boat Thursday. It was the first pipe I ever restored. And boy did it need it, it was thoroughly abused in the oil fields, hahaha.
I have a straight westbrook billiard that I have hopes of restoring myself. It's an estate I picked up as my first briar. Thing is I don't know that I want it to be my first resto.
I bought one new, that was no good. Then I bought 3 more older ones that I smoke every week. The first one was a Royal Duke with a leaking stem. I tried a few things to fix it, none of which worked. I emailed Dr. Grabow and explained the problem. I got no response. That leaves a bad taste and I won't be buying any more new ones. I do really enjoy the old ones I have, though.
All I have are Dr Grabows. They all smoke very well and all the ones that I have seem to have very nice grain! From left to right : Lark, Duke, Starfire, Westbrook #37, Savoy, El Dorado, and a Westbrook Canadian Billiard I got in the mail this morning. It's not my style but the grain was too nice to let it pass for $15.
