Hunlock, some aros I'd recommend as a starting point, if you feel that's what you might like:
Lane 1-Q seems to be a world-wide standard :)

Lane LL-7 isn't bad

CAO Eileen's Dream is a personal favorite when I smoke aros (and is made by a cigar company so...boom).
Not a lot of personal experience, but Cornell & Diehl make many subtly aromatic blends that are very well respected, and I believe you can get sampler packs from various websites.

Forgot to add, I think this would make a great first pipe.

It is a good size, not too heavy, can be used for flakes and other cuts. I would ditch the filter, I have owned Savinelli 6mm filtered pipes and they smoke great without it. Filters take away flavor in my opinion and impede the flow of smoke.

I remembered thinking that the room smelled like figs, dark fruit, spices,...
if you like that then i would suggest escudo like Harris recommended has all the above characteristics also Anniversary Kake is a good va/par you might enjoy.
I however prefer aromatics right now im smoking.
BH - Evening stroll

Sutliff Private Stock- moulin rouge

4noggins - Killington and Lord Methleys

Still have tons to try but i seem to enjoy those.
and if you dont know about this already check out the link its helped me out a lot.

I would recommend Savinelli as well, even though it is more than $50, the Tevere that Cigrmaster linked is a great pipe. I have that same shape or one that is close. Coming from cigars, aromatic tobacco might not be the best first choice I came from cigars and had some practice with an English blend before I tried an aromatic but I still burned the heck out of my tongue. Just my opinion.

For what it worth, I pulled the stem on my $3 pipe. There was a filter, which I removed, that said MEDICO.
Stopped in a newly found local shop, and they had a few nice pipes. I would say that it won't be long now until I get my hands on one....or five!

I also picked up some store blended tobacco to experiment with. The guy in the shop was extremely helpful, and will surely go back by the end of the week.

I also picked up an ounce of McClellan Red Cake. Why? I'm not sure... Don't really know my likes and dislike at this point, but figured I'd start somewhere.
And so it begins....

McClelland is a very well respected brand, and you're holding on to a Virginia blend.....nom nom nom....

If you want a good smoking inexpensive pipe I would suggest Missouri Meerschaum Corn Cob pipes and Mr Brog pipes. I have both and like em alot. My preference is a MM Cob as they smoke great but if your not into cobs Mr Brog is the way to go IMHO.

Welcome, I never thought cigars or pipe smoking was a hobby.

Maybe collecting pipes is, but smoking is smoking.

Get you a Nording free hand Signature .You will be less likely to break the stem and the walls are so thick it would be forgiving .While you get your method down .

Try to see the parallels between savoring luxury tobaccos, and wine and cheese.

I guess you could say the latter two are just drinking and eating, but I think there's more to it.

Welcome to the forum from another newbie! Let me tell you, these gentlemen have provided tons of good advice for me, and are always patient with whatever question I may have.

I'm still new at selecting tobaccos: you'll discover you have entered an entire new universe here. I predict that whatever first time pipe you get, you won't stay with it long before you long for some just a little bit upscale. (I rid myself of an early pipe, a Dublin that I couldn't keep lit, on eBay--I didn't realize I had bought a Dublin! I didn't even know what a Dublin was!)

Let me throw my two cents in for an upscale pipe: Peterson. Not a great pipe, but a very smokable one, with unusual aesthetics.

Again, welcome!
