Welcome, don't just think about pipes, Tobacco is just as important, hell of a lot to choose from, Enjoy.
You might want to consider Baraccini as I just acquired 2 additions to my collection. Both are nice pipes and are breaking in really nice. Both were under $35 a piece, which is nice if you want to expand your collection quickly or have lower cost pipes for work or ??.
Welcome Jon. I started very slowly about 6 months ago (after "messing" with it 25 years ago in college). So I'm new too. There's great stuff out here and people are really helpful.
RomeoWood's list is what I looked at. Don't forget to research "seconds" for all those brands. duca Carlo is worth looking at since they're the Savinelli seconds. Not as prett, with some fills, but as a starter they are very decent pipes. You can find them for under $50 even.
The pipe that's always in my pocket is actually a Czech pipe. I think I paid something like $35 for it. That way you don't have to worry about scratching, etc.
And I second tobakenist, start reading and tasting different tobacco's. That's more than half the fun of this hobby
