Just got this Ben Wade on ebay. I'm trying to get my brother into pipes, thought this might be a nice gift to pique his interest. Anyone own a Wade? Thought it looked nice, hopefully it smokes nice also! I guess I will have to try it out before giving it to him

That's definitely an old school Ben Wade that I remember back in the day when you'd see them at shops and so on. Always a big ol piece of wood and a real decent smoke. The older ones have so much style to the freehand.

I have 2 Ben Wade freehands and enjoy them very much. They are 30 years old and have never let me down.

I have several pipes from the Amber line and they all do fine. The bowl size tends to run medium to large, but this is true for most Dane manufactured Ben Wades.
They are beautiful pipes and comfortable to hold. I have always admired the combination of blast and smooth finishes on these pipes. The tactile sensation you feel running your fingers over the briar is nice. I think all the Amber pipes had acrylic stems and yours had stood the test of time very well.
Nice pipe, your brother will be very happy. If you've never smoked one of these, you might regret giving it to him.
Just saying.......

I got a BW poker of E-bay. Cleaned it up and it's one of my best - just love it!!!!

Today's rack pick was a Ben Wade Danish Pride, been smoking it all day. Have several from that era and they are all good smokers, I'm sure he'll enjoy it.

Classic, chunky, love it. When I was starting out in the 70's I couldn't afford the bucks for one but, really like them. Got 2 now, great smokes. You did good, priced right.
