I like the taste of tobacco and the nicotine it contains. I like OTC blends and haven't had a 'natural' blend I couldn't like. I smoke not only for taste and nicotine. Just the process helps me to live through an otherwise meaningless moment in time. The process becomes a religious act enhanced by the miracle of sensory gratification.

Categorization is fine for colors or shapes and various simple things, but not people, who are more complex than we can dare to describe. This categorization of people is dangerous and has lead to much discrimination, many deaths and unrest the world over. Realizing that each of us are quite unique, even in our tobacco habits seems manifest...why take it any further than that?

I am a pipe smoking gourmand. My tastes range all over the place and I am an expert at tasting the subleties of any blend. People line up to buy the blends that I enjoy as they all know, my tastes are unparalleled.

I smoke for the taste, but I'm not just a fan of milder tobaccos. Luxury Bullseye Flake and Escudo are, to most, on the stronger side of medium and I love those blends. I also despise OTC blends like Carter Hall, as I find them extremely bland. I still enjoy aromatics, but I also enjoy Virginias and VaPers as well. I'm branching into Latakia/Orientals and LOVE John Cotton's No. 1.

I do smoke for the taste (mainly english), but I love so much more about pipe smkoing, such as, the beauty, the feel, lines and shapes of the pipes themselves. Also tobaccos, the textures (cakes, flakes, rough cut and shag to name a few). I also enjoy the prep, the tamp, the rituals and routines. I love the calming effect that it seems to have on my mind and the way it makes my beer taste in the evening. Is there a group for all of that? Am I still a taster?

Maybe this is a hold overfrom babyhood. You have seen them, everything goes into their mouth
In my case this is particularly true. I actually have a pipe on my desk right now just so I can put something in my mouth every so often. Fidgeting is definitely a prime attraction to this hobby. Actually one of the strategies that I've been trying in order to avoid irritating my mouth is to not even taste the smoke, I just sit there puffing of smoke out my pipe, only rarely drawing. In this case the room note becomes the primary sensory experience.
