I almost pulled the trigger on the Oak one but I hate laquer finishes. Still is a beauty!

I can understand that. The reason it is lacquered is because as a spalted wood it is somewhat softer than unspalted wood. Also Oak has an open grain--it's full of little "divots" which will not produce a really smooth surface like briar or the Locust I use. On briar or Locust all I use is a coat of wax.
