My understand is that the vintage cut is supposed to be more of a ribbon as opposed to shag. The regular DBE and Kendal Kentucky and the like are shag.

Hmmm, looks pretty much the same as what they sell as a shag cut over here, long thin & stringy & nothing like a ribbon cut. They had to change the cut of shag pipe tobacco years ago, thanks to a EU imposed directive.
That 'Vintage Cut' would be close enough for me, be very surprised if it didn't smoke & taste exactly the same to be honest. In fact, I'd go so far as to say 'I'd eat my hat' if it does differ.??

I don't see why it would, which is why I'm not paying to find out.

I just caved and ordered a bit of the Jubilee stuff with a new Vauen Minni. We're a bit starved for Virginia/Burley blends in the UK, so any chance of a new one is welcome, and GH&Co do some damn good ones. I'm also rather fond of Germain's Brown Flake, so anything that matches up sounds like a winner to me, though I doubt it will quite have that fresh horse manure smell I like so much about the Germain's!

Just tried a bowl of each and I enjoyed them both. The Jubilee Blend had plenty of flavour and I think it'll age really well. The Summer Reserve had a floral, fruity, perfumed flavour and was really nice.
I'll probably get some of each for the cellar once funds allow.

Just having a bowl of the Jubilee, it’s tasting a little fruitier now it’s been sat in a jar for a week or two and I agree, it should age beautifully if left alone.
I’m also getting something else, which I can’t quite put my finger on…some dough flavour but I can’t tell if it’s bread dough or biscuit dough just yet.

Being in the jar for a few months can really make a difference. The bowl I smoked fresh out of the tin was nice anyway so being jarred can only make it even better.
It's good to see Gawith making the effort by putting out the odd new blend. I for one really appreciate it?.
