If you have an MM cob and you're using the filters, don't be afraid to change them. There's no point in sacrificing pleasure for a few nickels. Also too, if you decide to ditch the filters (which seems to be consensus), you'll learn quickly not to pull too hard.
I'm only about 50% of the way through the Escudo Manliness Makeover, and I would definitely say I feel a 15 to 20% residual increase after I've smoked it and, since I've started the regimen, my beard is fuller with a healthy lustre and I suspect I'm growing a fist behind it. Or it's maybe a family of squirrels. Either way I'm pleased.

Welcome and have some patience on the issues with ash, etc. You'll get more adept as time goes on. Most cigarette smokers will tell you they smoke too fast, which is not a plus with most pipes.

Welcome to the hobby!
Take your time and do a lot of reading. I definitely found the most valuable information comes from just getting to know tips and recommendations from fellow pipe smokers.
