Nice pipes, sir, excellent choice. Hope they will serve you for a long time.

Is "S" sign on the stem used for all of their pipes? Always thought they were using only the one which looks like a flag coat.
Do most of you leave the insert out? I am not a filter fan and not sure of the insert....

I prefer non filtered pipes but being a wet smoker I regret to not have chosen a filtered 320.

Inserts seem to help with too open draws but there's more cleaning.

3rd guy...the insert is typically drilled to provide the same draft flow as if the pipe was unfiltered. That said...when I don't use a filter in a 9mm pipe, I use the insert.

The new 320s were finally delivered today, and I just finished the maiden smoke in the Noce. As I've said before, I'm not a fan of rustication, but was intrigued by the "walnut" look of the Noce. In hand it's very nice, and feels very good in the hand. As usual, first smoke in the Noce 320 was much like that of my other 320s. I loaded it up with some Blend For Cary Grant and it smoked it like a well seasoned champ... two relights due to literally letting the burn go out. A third relight only confirmed there was no tobacco left to burn.
My only complaint, (which isn't entirely a complaint) is that the pipes received are not the ones from the photo even though they state, "The pipe you are going to purchase is a unique item, the picture shows you the real item you are buying, that is because once you have purchased it,it will be removed from the catalogue." My photos above are again being displayed for pipes in stock. However, I'm happy with the pipes I received, and the rustication seems better developed on mine than the one in the photo, so I win either way. And I was too quick to light it up before looking at my photos and noticing the difference anyway, haha! However, if I had been ordering a smooth, and I often choose by grain, I would have been unhappy. That being said, I'm not displeased with the smooth Grezza (smooth unfinished) I received and the cost on those is too low to worry about returning anyway. Just something to think about next time I order from them, and it could have been an honest mistake.
Regardless. The Noce, in particular, once again is quite lovely, and smokes like a dream in true 320 fashion, fresh out of the box.

So, are you going to stain the smooth? If so, what do you have in mind?
Haha, I'm not sure if I want to stain the new one or my old one. If so, it will just be a typical black and brown contrast stain.

The other one is another unfinished Savinelli 320... 1 because they're very inexpensive, 2 because it's fun to watch them color, and 3 because my other unfinished Sav 320 smokes like a dream,
I have 3 of the unfinished 320's because of the wonderful way they smoke. One of the few briars I smoke on a regular basis (most of the time it's meers)...

It's uncanny, isn't it? I'm currently enjoying a second smoke in the Noce. It just blows my mind how well these pipes smoke Balkans and Englishes.

I just received my very first Savinelli, Oceano 320, Rusicated. I am a believer! This is one of the best smoking pipes I’ve tried. I’m fairly new but have 9 pipes already. PAD strikes early. I think for sure I’ll bebuying more Savinelli’s. Enjoy your new Pipes.

I saw a couple unfinished 320s in a B&M last year, and they wouldn't pass a cleaner! From what I gather, that's not an issue for you guys?

Never had a problem with my heard (5) of 320s. Maybe a filter was installed.

Sounds dumb but I constantly forget I have a filter in my 320s and then freak out when attempting to run a cleaner through.

I have an unfinished 320 I bought from P&C. It has 4 fills that don’t amount to much. My pipe will pass a fluffy cleaner like a hot knife through butter. It is coloring beautifully. I love it.

Am tempted by the 320's but don't own 1 yet. Maybe some day. As a huge Peterson lover, I'll say your post headhunter illustrates what many others have pointed out here over the years: when it comes to fills, Peterson seems no better nor worse than most factory pipe makers.

The Unfinished/Grezza/Series III do not take a filter.
Is the mortise drilled for one? The unfiltered Rossi pipes I've seen are. They plug the end of the tenons, but they're otherwise the same as the filtered models.
