Not just a Military Mount, but a Delrin lined Military Mount ! Which is a first for me, and maybe anybody ?True military mount or traditional mortise & tenon made to look military?
Delrin lined like the 1904 Pete Meer you rescued. That’s fantasticNot just a Military Mount, but a Delrin lined Military Mount ! Which is a first for me, and maybe anybody ?
I forgot to point that out in the listing, but man I like it a lot.
The Cap on this one comes down to such a narrow point, I wasn't real happy with the tiny amount of wood surrounding the mortise. So, the back half of the Silver (closest to the stem) has a Delrin plug that's shaped to fit inside the cap and then drilled with a taper for the Ebonite stem. The half of the Silver cap closest to the bowl holds the end of the briar shank, and the delrin has a tenon of it's own that goes a bit down the shank to hold it in place.
Pretty bulletproof set up, and the buttery feel of Delrin when you fit the stem is magnificent. I like it a whole lot more than an Ebonite on Briar Mount, even if it does add a stupid amount of work to something meant to be pretty straightforward and simple.

Was that a Military Mount ? I didn't think I'd done it this way before, but maybe that's why I had the idea in my head for this one lolDelrin lined like the 1904 Pete Meer you rescued. That’s fantastic
Not a military mount but a reinforced tenon receiver thingy that accepts the stemWas that a Military Mount ? I didn't think I'd done it this way before, but maybe that's why I had the idea in my head for this one lol
That's a cool little pipe, and very much my style ! I'd carry it in my pocket every day, banging around with my keys and lighter and spare change.I just picked up @lonestar 's billiard nose warmer on SP. I wasn't looking for a new pipe but after reading this thread I said screw it I want it.
So, he's an ass grabber? Sometimes I suffer from whatever it's called when one gets words out of order........Nice grab, Ash.
That’s uncalled for; we all know he only grabs you by your ash or by your pipeSo, he's an ass grabber?

I was wondering how you matched the outside contour of the briar to the inside contour of the cap closely enough to support it completely... meaning enough to prevent the wood from splitting at the "sharpened" end from the repeated pressure cycling of stem removal and insertion.
Put another way, a bullet shape like that tapers to a knife edge where it meets the mortise, and wood doesn't LIKE being a knife edge as a categorical thing.
I was sure you must have come up with a solution or you wouldn't have made it in the first place, though.
Muchacho gracioso for the explanation.

Board: what Ryan described is some rockstar carver shit. Buy his stuff. He's as good with the technical, build-quality side of the game as he is the shaping and finish side of it. (A combination which is surprisingly rare.)
I believe yes. I’ll take pics when it lands
