Mike at Briar Blues did a Pipe of the Year with Brian Ruthenberg so I liked what I saw and grabbed one. It is a basic Billiard, nothing fancy but I am sure it will be a fantastic smoker. It is a large group 4 to small 5 in size and weighs in at 50 grams. This will be my third Ruthenberg and the other two are both fantastic smokers with great stems.

Lovely pipe, Harris. I was eyeing them when I got my email from Mike, unfortunately only opened it this morning and all four were already snapped up. I hope it's a great smoker for you, but not so good that you want to buy up the remaining 8 when they are available!
Best,
-- Pat

Congrats, Harris. Looks like a great, no-nonsense smoking machine. With a nice, and unusual, ring blast to boot.

Pat, I promise not to buy anymore, one is enough for me.
Pitch, I agree, nothing fancy, very straight forward flake smoking machine.
Thanks for the nice comments guys.

I got the email last night, they were all gone by the time I opened it. I wasn't going to be a buyer, the funds aren't there. But good for you. I had a good laugh at Mike's bow tie story!

I did see the pipe, but I just can't buy straights anymore. Bents are for me.
It does look like a great pipe, and the color/stain is very cool.
Enjoy!

Thanks guys, the nice comments are appreciated.
Allan, talk to me in a year and my guess is you will be liking straight pipes as well as your bents, tastes naturally change in this thing of ours. You should examine your proclivity for only wanting bent pipes, there is some type of deep seeded psychological issue stemming from your childhood. I think if you see a therapist for a few months, you will be able to figure it out and then you can begin to know the joys of a straight pipe. You really are missing out on some special pipes that would enhance your smoking to a degree that you cannot possibly conceive. The way the smoke tastes from a straight pipe is completely different from a bent, the curve of the bent pipe makes the smoke not as sweet.
By the way, the Brooklyn Bridge is for sale and I can get it for you at a good price. :nana:

Nice Ruthenberg. I almost bit, but I figured you were going to buy one, and I don't want to be smoking the same pipe as you.

peck, that is newbie puke to you. If you are going to insult me do it properly.
The thought of us smoking the same pipe is completely abhorrent to me, I thank you for passing. If I had known you bought one I would have had to burn mine to a fine ash. By the way, my prediction is that this pipe is going to be one of the greatest smoking pipes ever produced, only those who can appreciate that kind of quality are worthy of owning it, that leaves you out.

Hmmm. I've been thinking about this.
Maybe its you 'straight pipe guys' that needs the therapy. Maybe straight pipes indicate a Freudian need to show the world that 'you are here', so to speak. Or 'look at me!'. (Boy, I'm liking this thread of thinking, I'm warming up to it).
Possibly a bent pipe guys show that our egos are more intact, that we are able to not boast and just live and be.
Or, in the end, sometimes a pipe is just a pipe.
:)

Allan, the guys who like straight pipes are just showing they are real men and that guys who go for bent may be light in the loafers( not that there is anything wrong with that). I would submit you might want to examine your sexual orientation a bit and maybe come to the conclusion that you are indeed a latent homosexual( not that there is anything wrong with that). LOL
Or it could be as you stated, a pipe is just a pipe.
roth, thanks buddy, I am very confident that this pipe will smoke as good as my other Ruthenbergs which are superb smokers.

Harris
The 'gay' friends that I'm acquainted with seem to have no trouble in the 'straight' department, if you get my drift.

It seems to me much more logical that a straight pipe goes with the very large car, or very large cigar; a man needing to show everyone that he is a 'real man', as you say.
Indeed, it is well known that those folks that need to shout it out loud are indeed the closest cases.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with that.

Harris,
I bet you would drag your sorry little scrotum through a million miles of broken glass across the sahara desert with Oprah's queef as your only air supply just to get one of my prized pipes.

LOL, good one Allan. Since I don't drive a large car( Lexus IS 330) and never smoked large cigars, I think I don't fit the profile of which you speak. Considering you drive a Hummer, live in an 8000 sq ft home and smoke only double coronas, it sounds like you are speaking of yourself, takes one to know one. lol

There is nothing wrong with straight pipes. Nothing at all. It's the bent pipes I worry about.
Harris,
That is a nice pipe. I was going to get one but Premal at Smokers Haven has me on a short leash. lol

Actually, Harris, I don't drive a Hummer, and double coronas were not my thing, Churchill's were. And yes, the house is large.
So I guess you got me on those things :)
All I can say is, I like bent pipes. The straight ones are too hard on my teeth without constant support. But wait a minute---since I'm not used to getting large straight objects shoved in my mouth, maybe that's why you like them??
Peck, that was a good one.
