I bought one of these little pipes from smokingpipes.com, I had been looking at them for a while. I have found that I like smaller pipes and want to get a few. This is the cheapest one you can get (in terms of the finish) and I liked the shape. I looked over the specs, yet I was still surprised at how diminutive this pipe is when it arrived today.

I also received some Cornell and Diehl Pegasus, so I am trying it out. So far I like both the pipe and the tobacco, I have a feeling I will end up with a couple more of these mini-pipes eventually. image.jpgimage.jpg

Nice, but not much wall thickness. It will heat up if you draw too much. You must go easy with this one.
When I was shopping for the pipe, I noticed a lot of the Etudiants have thin walls and have very little material at the bottom of the bowl. If the specs were accurate, some of those only have about 1/8" of material at the bottom of the bowl.

Just from eying it,I would say mine has 1/4 inchfrom rhe smoke channelto the bottom. No problems yet.Carefull lighting and smoking should keep it from burning out.

I bought what I take to be a size larger Etudiant, a compact bent poker sitter, that has a small/medium bowl. It's a good size for short smokes, easy to clench, convenient to set down, and nicely balanced in hand. The finish is smooth in dark slightly red stain. I find French pipes high quality for the prices, and nicely designed and crafted. The pipe-making community in France is quite proud and a somewhat tight community, competitive but also supportive. A pipe called "Student" is disingenuous for an old pipe smoker like me, but the actual pipe fills the bill. My first pipe, that I still have, and smoke, that is in fine shape, is a Tinder Box St. Ives, which was probably made by Comoy in France.

I got an unmarked French estate about 2 months ago and I liked it a lot, it was just about my smallest pipe before this one. I’ve now been eyeing a bunch of smaller French pipes. I like the low weight and small stems for comfort, which seems to be more common in the French pipes. I could be wrong about that, as I am very inexperienced. As small as this little pipe is, I still got close to an hour from a bowl full.

For a longer smoke in a small pipe, when that is desirable, flake, coin, plug, and rope will give you a noticeably longer smoke. I think that is because there is more retained moisture and the pieces are a little thicker than loose tobacco. Also, these cuts usually deliver full bodied flavor, which is a plus. When you want the benefit of a shorter smoke with a small pipe, just revert to loose tobacco.

I have the same pipe and also have the small prince from the same line. Both great smokers. I tend to like flakes in these. They’re also nice taster pipes for pipe shows or meet ups.

I bought this with flake in mind, but I can see owning a handful of pipes around this size for various tobaccos.

I’ve had one of those in my cart countless times but always back out. I’ll definitely get one. I generally reach for smaller pipes more often and usually opt for shorter smokes so they look perfect to me. Pretty too.
