Allan, I know what you mean about Rad's pipes. They are incredibly light, smoke cool and dry and practically smoke themselves. It is his craftsmanship and his source for high quality briar that makes it possible. I do have other American artisan pipes that smoke extremely well but Rad's stems are the most comfortable but not by that much. I have a Scott Thile, 2 Ruthenbergs, Jody Davis, Mike Butera, Bruce Weaver and a Steve Morrissete and all of them smoke cool and dry like the Rad's. The Thile and the Jody Davis have stems comparable to the Rad's and the others are just a tad less comfortable. There are some great American artisan pipes out there, you will find them eventually.

I have a Scott Thile and you are right=his stems are comparable to Rad's. Scott's pipe is also very light for its size.'
