Hi all; I am thinking about buying a new pipe and I would like your advice. The two I have my eye on are an Aldo Velani Or Bjarne Viking with a classic polished wax finish. Have any of you fine people had any experience with either one of these pipes? I am concerned that the wax might be a problem as I tend to smoke my pipes on the warmer side. I thank you for your response and happy smoking. Herman

I had a new (NOS) Bjarne Viking bent billiard which I gifted a friend. He wanted to get back to smoking pipes and didn't have any. He was over at my house on the weekend and he had a bowl out of that pipe. He says that it smokes very well for him.

I much prefer wax finishes to high gloss varnish. The wax will go matte with usage, but it is very easy to get a nice sheen again with a cloth and Paragon or Renaissance was or just a jewellers cloth. There are also pipe polishing cloths eg Dunhill and Savinelli.
