Hi smokertruck,
I, too, have several pipes that I can't pass a cleaner all the way to the bowl. It's annoying, but since I like the pipes, I live with it. I do think I have a solution for the possibility of getting a piece of tobacco in the airway.

I use these whenever I have a tobacco that has a tendency to drop small bits to the bottom of the bowl.
As far as moisture build-up, the only thing that helps me is keeping the pipe out of my mouth until I'm ready to draw on it. I do hate those gurgling noises...
BTW, have you tried the pipe cleaners with the bristles in them? They seem to leave less fluff behind...or that could just be my imagination.
