There was a "Peterson Night" at a pipe club I attended a couple years ago. I went in planning to buy a pipe, and left thinking "Wow, I wonder how these guys have a reputation for good pipes." Most of them were misdrilled, lots of loose material inside, sharp edges, crooked stems. Pretty garbagy I thought. Even the so-called high end pipes, the year pipes, were finished poorly with evident scratches under that thick plastic finish.
Boo!
I like Petes and would buy another if I could get one that matched my better pipes, but I have no idea how to do this without buying and sending back 10 pipes.
Glad to see the vendor took care of you dpk - that's excellent service in a time of poor service standards.

Your good experience with a vendor "making it right" lead me to make a purchase on eBay from these guys. I like to support people who care a little about their business.

Nice pipe!
My only issue with tobaccopipes.com is they say the picture you see is not necessarily the one you will get (on ebay). That and they do not provide the weight. Your experience may change my mind. It is cool they are sending you a prepaid return slip.
I just had to return a pipe because the weight was twice what they said it was, even when I asked them to verify it before purchase. I had to eat the return shipping and even though I used the credit for St. James Flake, still lost out on the deal with the return postage. Its not a big deal, but this shows that tobaccopipes.com is on their game.

I have smoked this pipe about 12 times now. It is a good pipe. However, I don't seem to bonding to it. I feel I get a better smoke with my DiMonte that I paid less than half the price of the Peterson. My new Radice is far and above in quality and engineering of the Peterson, but it cost over 2 times as much as the Peterson. I think I am going to stick to either estate pipes that I can see for myself or commission new ones to my own specifications from reputable pipe makers. I just might sell this Peterson if my feelings don't change on it.
