Thank you guys, I'll try to reply to the questions...
As for the band, it is gold if we believe to the markings (9k gold); Anthony be careful with Petes, they become addictive eheheh
As for how it smokes, it smokes beautifully, at least for the first smoke I tried today. Of course being the bowl very large you can expect about 2 hours of smoking if you puff slowly without getting the pipe hot...so it's one of those pipes for the long winter evenings.
What will I smoke in it ?

I usually smoke three kind of tobaccos (in no particular order of preference):

English mixtures (Dunhill 965, Early morning etc.)
Virginias (usually Samuel Gawith Full Virginia, Golden Glow, and sometimes the stronger Brown n.4 but not in big pipe...2 hours of n.4 could make me dream strange things eheheh)
Some natural italian Kentucky based tobaccos like Italia, Forte, Comune. They are mild to strong (Forte means strong) tobaccos of mainly italian Kentucky.

Sometimes if I can't find pipe's tobacco when I'm out, I buy some Toscano cigars (mainly Kentucky, very very different from cubans etc.) and break one in the pipe; sorry for my poor english, I don't remember the name of the parts of a cigar, but I only smoke the interior of it in the pipe, discarding the external leaf. This cigar in a pipe is very very good from time to time and as an added bonus...it cleans the pipe.
Should I smoke something that leaves a bad taste behind...a Toscano in the pipe and voilà...it gets cleaned, no more bad tastes :)
