Charging for parking is so uncivilized.
In Vegas there's hardly any places you have to pay to park. Just about all of it is complimentary. Not charging in any US metro area is unheard of. $10 seems a bit low, but I bet they catch on fast. It's $10 for a few hours in Philly for the monthly pipe club meeting...
Space in NO has always been at a premium. Geographicly there is limited area defined by water on three sides and the fourth is swampland. Vegas can spread its tackiness for miles into the desert."Pay to park" is a sign that a city has gotten too big and the parasites have moved in
In my experience, the really prosperous towns are like this. Businesses build enough parking and then some, inviting people into the downtown area to spend money on real products, not a parasite business like a car lot. There are a few paid parking areas downtown, but there are also casinos with free parking garages on the edges of downtown Las Vegas. You can easily park at one of them and walk ten minutes to where you need to go.
