Hello all, I guess it's time to introduce myself. I'm 57 and just getting back into pipe smoking. Smoked for a while in the late 70s and then had to quit because my then-wife decided she was allergic. Recently came across my pipes and ordered some tobbacco. It's good to be back. After all these years, I'm sure I'll have questions and from the looks of it, this site is the place for answers.

Hello,

I go by Earjoy and I've been a pipe smoker on and off for the last 20 years, usually as a substitute for cigarettes. I enjoy pipe smoking and over the years have collected a few pipes. Personally, I enjoy Meerschaum's, and hopefully give up the cigs for good. Years back I used to smoke a mixture I bought at Walgreen's called Irish Mead, I've discovered via the internet that the company that produced this went out of business in 1996. I've found a blend from 1888, Late Night, that is somewhat close, but not quite. Does anyone remember this blend and have any suggestions? I also have been looking at some estate pipes, with the aluminum finned stems, just for the fact that when I was younger, I thought they looked very cool, though I've never smoked one. Are they any good? thanks.

Check out THIS description of the blend. Sounds like a typical OTC blend and I'd be interested in anything you find as a replacement... Oh and welcome to the forums!
Also found this:

and the one of the reviewers on TR.com suggested that J. F. Germain's Plum Cake was similar.

Lordnoble,

I read the same review in my search and have a tin of Germain Plum Cake on order. I'll post the results.
