true, dat ... not sure I'd have listened if allan had offered that advise to me when I arrived here, but I can tell you that I've learned through experience that he's spot-on with that ...
there's a wealth of knowledge here, geo3rge ... and I'm sure that your being here will add to that ... welcome.
geo3rge, welcome to the best pipe site on the web, I hope you enjoy yourself as much as I do here. The first pipe I ever bought was a Savinelli and I still own it, great smoker. I hope you love yours.
If you are looking to expand your horizons for new blends, I would recommend trying Samuel Gawith Best Brown Flake, St James Flake, along with Dunhill Flake and a tin of Escudo. There is a ton of info in regards to smoking flakes and their preparation. I believe cube cutting flakes for a newcomer to flakes is the place to start and then once you get comfortable with that, try the fold and stuff method. Flakes are in my opinion the coolest, slowest burning and most flavorful of all the different cuts of tobacco.

A thought - wouldn't it be marvellous if every pipe smoker could meet every other pipe smoker just once and say hello, smoke a pipe together, swap stories and bring the world to rights?! geo3rge, please try those flakes using the cube cut method, I think you will find that they smoke cooler and with more flavor that rubbing them out. I personally never rub out my flakes, I either cube cut of fold and stuff as I believe rubbing them out defeats the purpose of smoking a flake.
