Greetings.

Brand new to this site. Have smoked pipes in the past, beginning about 40 years ago. Took up cigars and became enamored with them, now am back to a pipe on occasion. I must say this site has more than rekindled my desire to start smoking again AND to look into some of the many pipes I have owned but unaware of their worth.

My first question would be concerning a Charatan Perfection I own. 311DC, Reg.no 203573.

Any idea of its age? I can post pix if I knew how.

And the name is x'd out. I read that Dunhill did that. Anyone know why or when?
Looking forward to this site.

Paul

Just wanted to add for all you new guys that this Tuesday, February 20th, is International Pipe Smoking Day, or IPSD. It is a great time to light a pipe of course, but there is usually some online deals to be had, at least for US residents.

So I was just looking at my past posts and realized I hadn't posted in 5 years. I must blame youtube and Instagram for this. That being said, I wanted to re-introduce myself. My name is Nathan and I live in Western Illinois. I have smoked a pipe since about 2008. The forum is better to use at work...not that I would ever waste valuable time talking about pipes and pipe tobacco instead of working. I am always interested in learning more and teaching what I can about our hobby. Anyway, hello...again!

Hello everyone. I'm John and I'm from Texas. Been smoking a pipe for a couple years and starting to get into pipe crafting. Currently working on finishing my first 2 in the next couple weeks.

I've been reading when I have a question for a bit now. Finally decided to join. I might have interested a couple people locally to start a pipe smokers club. Hang out, talk philosophy, whatevs. Anyone have any experience doing this? Advice?
Anyway, glad to be here. thanks!

Hi Guys and Gals. I'm Paul from the Bridgeport neighborhood in Chicago. I signed up here a few years ago but haven't been very active. I bought my first few pipes 40 years ago as a teenager and they spent almost 30 years of their lives languishing in a drawer except for the occasional OTC pouch purchase. I'm also a RYO enthusiast, and when D&R switched to pipe cut, the idea struck me to drag out those old pipes and give them a try. I enjoyed them immensely and haven't looked back since.
PAD and TAD struck with a vengeance just over 10 years ago. I now have amassed a collection of over a few hundred pipes, the majority of which are cobs and estates. The history of pipe smoking intrigues me and restoring old gems is a big part of the hobby for me. I started out jarring lots of bulk blends, but the mountain of tins accumulated over the past several years is getting embarrassing. I hope for the best but continue to prepare for the worst. I'm looking forward to being more active here in the future.

Good morning everyone,
My Name is Billy, I've been smoking cigars pretty seriously for around 20 years and would smoke a pipe every now and then. It's been about a year or so now that I've essentially switched gears and now I pretty much just smoke a pipe. I live in Houston and travel occasionally for work. I was lucky enough to be in New York in November and made it to the New York pipe club meeting. A great group of people and a wealth of knowledge to be sure. My avatar is one of my bee hives in the back yard. I know it's an odd hobby, but it's oddly calming (try working a bee hive in a hurry lol). I've been lurking for a few months and figured it was time to make it official!

Hello ,

I am a young Frenchman of 67 years soon, and I speak very bad English so I read you in translation (when it works) and responds like this ...

I intervene especially when I see that it concerns a French thing that I know.

I avoid going into too much complicated discussion with you to avoid shit on the subject ....
Regards

I started posting regularly earlier this year, but a long time reader. Neal from Atlanta, GA (but a Midwestern Iowa boy at heart).
