Welcome to the forum, kft22.
You are off to a good start with your selection of pipes and tobacco.
Give the tobaccos you have several tries before you make a final determination on whether you like them or n
The more you smoke a blend, the more you discover the nuances of it. Give the blends more time before you decide you don't like them. If you don't care for it now, put it aside for a while and see if you feelings for it change.
Once you zero in on what you like best (English/Balkan, Vaper, Burley, etc), you'll find forum members love to share information on their favorite blends.

Thanks, John. And thanks for the advice; I'll definitely be giving all of the ones I have more than a few tries.
Quick question for all of you: Do some tobaccos pack better/easier than others, or are there differing techniques to use depending on which kind of tobacco you're packing? I seem to be pretty inconsistent with the Butternut Burley (moreso with my smallish MM cob than with the Omega).

his "most popular" selling blend and I found it to be pretty pleasing. I didn't catch the name of the blend

Haymarket. :) I almost always have a blend or two of Jim's in my rotation. Right now he has two latakia blends out that I like. I'm not sure either one has been named. One is a fairly full English, and the other a lighter balkan type that is nice in the morning.

He had this great blend when I started going there called Golden Ash; then, alas, he couldn't get it any more. It was rather like the Sobranie White.

Jim has never sold relabeled Lanes, or Stokkebye, or any of that. He has his blends made up by various places he deals with.

Thanks Jud, Haymarket! HE mentioned the name on the phone, but for the life of me I couldn't remember. I'm going to be sure to place another order for some soon and will probably add a few other blends to the mix. I am also hoping to get down state in a couple of months and take a swing in to the shop. I really appreciate the help!

Welcome to the site. It looks like you are on your way to having a good case of TAD and PAD like the rest of us. I would suggest grabbing a tin of Escudo, it is one of my favorite blends and a real classic.

Welcome from the UP! I'm in Marquette, I'm originally from Holland about 15 min west of Grand Rapids. If you're ever in the UP Bookworld is a decent place for aeros and a decent selection of Savinelli and Uhle's pipes. The manager, Lee is a friend and loves discussing tobacco. Welcome again!
