I was browsing Etsy and the 'Bay and found a couple meers and decided to take the chance. They went too cheap to pass up. Here's hoping they get here ok and clean up well. These are the sellers' pics.

This may be a dumb question, but what is a stinger?
Not dumb at all. A stinger is a metal bit in the end of the stem meant to cool or dry the smoke. Kaywoodie's stinger is meant to keep the juices on the pipe and out of your mouth.
It looks like this.

Is this something a pipe maker plans to have in the pipe when he makes it, or is it something after market that is/can be added to most pipes?

Stingers have been part and parcel with factory pipes for ages, sort of a system to draw moisture out of the smoke, or prevent juices from wet smokes to travel up the stem. You won't see these in high end or artisan pipes. I take them out and keep them in a jar, lol. Many find them restrictive, since they naturally must have smaller draft holes than the stem. I am unaware of anyone selling them aftermarket.

Nice pipes, BTW.

Looks like they are both Kaywoodies. One is in pretty nice shape with the stinger intact and the other is fairly beat-up, gunked-up and had the stinger chopped. May have to clean them up a bit and sell one.
