Hey everybody. I finally moved into my new place and am designing my new mailbox. I'm trying to come up with a way to either make the entire mailbox a pipe, or integrate a pipe into the design. I'm pretty handy and imaginative, but could use a little inspiration from the guys. I know alot of you can think of some pretty cool stuff.

So if you want, post a sketch or even just a description of what your thinking and I'll use that outright or reference as needed.

Thank you all and happy Sunday

I'm not crafty in that way, but what comes to mind is to sacrifice one of your less good pipes and attach it solidly to the top of the mailbox as a sort of hood ornament.

You might want to spray paint it uniformly one color and also to make it look not smokeable to avoid theft.

I think if it were perched at a slight angle, artfully, it would be better than having it sit flush on the top of the mailbox. That could be done with a little wood block base firmly screwed to the mailbox and the pipe.

All that said, mailboxes are often targets for vandals, so whatever you put out there might be smashed. That happened to my mailbox once, and the policeman who came to get information nudged me to jack up the price of repairs to get back at the perpetrator. I ended up with a pretty nice mailbox.

I think a large scale pipe facsimile might not look as pipe-like. Sometimes changing the scale of objects makes it harder to see quickly what they are supposed to be, just in driving by.

Maybe make it a straight billiard shape with a hinge on the bottom of the bowl. Or you could have a normal mailbox but with a pipe-shaped flag. Like a calabash or Sherlock shaped flag. Or maybe a smoke cloud shaped flag.

if you go with the billiard box, stain it up - show some char and scorch marks. Maybe burn it for real even.

Agree on making sure the scale translates. Also improper stem to bowl length ratio or diameters may make it not read as a pipe.

I'm measuring dimensions and this thing is gonna either be large and wonky and heavy or I can go the "KISS" route and go simple. I can't decide and my wife doesn't want an eye sore but that's alot of work for a mailbox lol. I'm still drawing, I'll think of something. Going off my measurements of a regular envelope I could keep it relatively small, but a normal mailbox cand hold more then a few pieces of paper mail. So I want to keep the those but add where I need to, maybe it'll just be a side view uh why do I torture myself.

Thank you, I'm just trying to keep myself buisy and make my family's home a bit unique. Doing things the kids will remember that's outside the norm. For the first time in my short life I can choose to do with my home as I please. No landlord, nobody to ask permission but myself, which is kinda scary and why I'm gonna have a pipe mailbox 😁
