My one Mississippi experience was traveling to Coffeeville with an army buddy that was from there. We spent Labor Day weekend (or was it Memorial day, can't recall) and I had a blast. The whole town "comes home" for that weekend and there is (was) partying in the streets.
That was Yalobusha county. At the time (early 90's) it was the only place I'd ever been where beer was outlawed but spirits were not. You could go to a bar for a mixed drink and then people had illegal "beer joints" in their garages.
I guess the local authority's position was, "If you gonna drink HERE, son, you gonna do it right."
