Yeah it definitely did not come out with the stem. Im gonna clean it up some tomorrow and see if i can see it better. If not there is a pipe shop a few hours from me that also repair pipes.
Can you see the end of it with the stem removed and grab hold of it?
Like Burleybreath says, it could just be stuck in there with gunk.

Betcha it's fused in there with old gunk. I'd try WD-40. [joke, heh] Something alcoholic might loosen it up. When you get it out, throw it away. OR--since that's a Dunhill from the "good" years, and well worth coddling, you could send it to a pro for resurrecting. Briarville, or somebody like that. That's definitely what I'd do. Welcome to the site.
Thanks for the suggestion. I may take this to someone more versed than I. Its a very nice pipe and will be amazing when back to smoking condition.

Welcome from Malaysia Alex! I also just got 2 Dunhills yesterday. Yes, one is with the silver colour rod, it's called stinger. I removed it.
