Hullo all, crawdad here! Started smoking pipes a little over 10 months ago. Smoking pipes was one thing on my bucket list and I have enjoyed it tremendously thus far. I don’t have a particular favorite tobacco as I seem to enjoy about everything I’ve tried. However, anything that tickles my sweet tooth is usually in my rotation. As for pipes, I’m a family man with waaay too many kids so I’m on a budget. No high dollar pieces of art for me or rarefied tobaccos a that. Someday maybe I’ll win the lottery and I’ll spoil myself rotten. ‘Course I have to start playingt the lottery first...

Welcome aboard. As far as the lottery goes, remember, you can’t lose if ya don’t play! That’s my motto. And pipe smoking doesn’t require high end pipes to be enjoyable, some of my most transcendental smokes have come from a no-name pipe or a cheap Stanwell. But don’t get me wrong, it’s quite nice to have a few artisan pipes in the rotation but you’ve got plenty of time to decide whether you want to go that route or not. Really, all ya need is a cob, a pouch of tobacco, a nail, a Bic lighter and some pipe cleaners (or feathers, depending on how many kids you have) and you’re good to go!

If you do your homework, you find exemplary pipes in the thrift category. Yes, when you get a windfall and buy a "fine" pipe, it's a thrill, but those good old work horse pipes from the factory often start well and only improve.
