Grant Batson is part of the new breed of young pipe carvers based in Nashville. Todd referred to Grant as "the best pipe maker you've never heard of". I met Grant at the Chicago show when he had one more pipe left unsold which I had to have (I have a thing for blasted eggs). Unfortunately I was out of cash, but we agreed to touch base after the show and if the pipe was still unsold, I'd buy it. Well, it was, I did and here it is.

"Hows she smoke ?"
I'll let you know in about an hour.
BTW, the "Todd" I referred to in my original post was Todd Johnson. Gotta start proof-reading!

Is it a pure coincidence that we have the same name?
I think NOT!
Excellent pipe. I hope she doesn't let you down.

A wide open airway, comfortable bit, nice thick walls... a VERY well done pipe!

What a talent. Besides the execution of the making of the pipe, the concept and the shape choice is just amazing to me. These guys are sculptors. I guess they are limited to some extent because after all it still has to be a functional pipe, but the variation on the same theme seems never ending. :puffy:

Does he have a website? Or distribute through another vendor? All I've found so far is a twitter page that seems to be his.

That is a really nice pipe! I hope you enjoy its smoking ability.

Guess I really need to get to a pipe show one of these days.

Great looking wood here. I can see why you had to have it. I especially like the way the stem meets the shank. Quite a good looker.
