Hi all, I have been smoking my pipes on and off now for about 7 years. I bought about 3 pounds of a variety of blends in college and became the unofficial campus tobacconist for a while, but as I graduated and life took over I turned to cigarettes for my nic fix. years later I have made my return to my daily puff, and I'm shocked by how much has changed. My beloved frog morton is gone, Murrays tobacco is gone, P&C ain't what they used to be and it seems that the whole industry is feeling the squeeze. Sad days for sure.
Fortunately, i can afford to cellar tobacco in this season of life, something I have thrown myself into whole heartedly. The death of the Lat Bombs (or at least their decline in popularity) and the emergence of the mellow English ( "Balkan isn't something that i remember from my college blends, but seems to be much more prevalent now. Not to start a debate, just saying...) Has been interesting and refreshing, since its much more to my tastes. I prefer Latakia blends for their flavor, cool smoke, and tendency towards fuller profiles. That's not to say I don't like a little of everything, but I always come home to my Smokey leaf.
For me, sitting on my back porch with a good dram and a bowl full of Presbyterian is the perfect way to unwind.
