Hello, I am a long time cigar smoker and decided to give pipes a try. It's been about two weeks and I'm up to 6 pipes and taking a turn at some light reconditioning of a couple estates.

Thankfully I've got a helping hand from a long time pipe smoking colleague and these forums.

Thanks so much.

Welcome aboard from central North Carolina. I've been to Orlando twice, once with my cousin from the Ft. Myers area during the gas shortage, to visit Disney World with a mostly empty parking lot, just to give his TR3 a chance to burn out the carbon, and many years later to a scientific meeting at that vast convention center that can hold five or six major meetings at once ... maybe more. I still have a Hawaiian shirt I bought there, a nice muted brown and orange design.

Lol. We've been here a little over 4 years. Spent my life in Maine before that and I think we will be spending time there again before it's over. Springs are nice around here, gulf coast is great. Ybor City out in Tampa is incredible.

Are there any pipe tobacconists left in Florida?

Ones that specialize in pipes only? Probably not. Nearly everyone also carries cigars, and it seems most smoke shops where I am generally cater to the RYO crowd (as they use "pipe" tobacco to roll cigarettes with, it is labeled pipe tobacco for tax purposes probably--though you can smoke it in a pipe, I have). I believe there is a tobacconist on Church Street in Orlando. Pipe & Pouch if memory serves. I've not been over there though, the drive would be a real hassle as I hate Orlando traffic. (I wouldn't even go to Daytona if I didn't work there.) So I can't really say what they are like.

Daytona has Tobacco Exotica on International Speedway Blvd. I think they are a bit over priced though.

The retailer directory on the top of the page has some listed. I don't know how up to date this list is, as it lists the Daytona Tender Box and they've been closed for years.

Thanks. Yea Orlando traffic is just dumb. Not sure how else to describe it. . . I looked at Pipe and Pouch and it looked more like a vap/head shop than anything else.

Welcome from Tampa!

There is a small tobacconist here in Tampa, Edward's. But a good portion of their focus is on cigars. But they do have a tobacco blending bar, a buffing wheel and several bulk and tinned blends as well as several pipes on the wall and in the case.

I don't go there often because it's not close to where I live or work, but I have gone a few times and sat at the bar and had a couple of cups of coffee with a buddy. We are looked upon with mild fascination since we are the "youngsters" with our pipes. We're both in our 40's. But a good group of people every time I've been there.

There is another shop down in Sarasota off of St. Armand's Circle. Again mostly a focus on cigars, but a decent selection of pipe tobaccos.

When I used to live in Orlando, Corona Cigars on Sand Lake used to have some tinned tobaccos behind the counter. Ashton's Artisan's Blend and a couple of Dunhill (now Peterson) blends. They weren't cheap, and not sure if they still carry them.

Happy Puffing!

A lot of places these days seem to be that way these days. Pipe smoking isn't exactly fashionable. It wasn't really fashionable when I started smoking a pipe at 16 back in 1995 either. We're a niche market really and the overhead B&Ms have they make far more money with the fashionable products than with pipe tobacco and pipes.

@pipingfool I remember days when I was one of the young fellows at the Tender Box's blending bar. I was in my 20s then. That being said I'd probably still be one of the young fellows these days too.

Yep. In my 20s, I was mostly smoking cigars, but I dabbled (albeit badly) with pipes. I would go into the Tinder Box in the Wolfchase Mall in Memphis every time I was in town like I was a kid in a candy store. Not many places like that anymore.

I was smoking a pipe back then. Cigars never appealed to me the way pipes did. I'm not sure why. My mother is a never smoker, my father smoked cigarettes (he quit 8 years ago), and all my grandparents smoked cigarettes also. Many people here can recount grandparents or parents who smoked pipes but the closest I can get is a great uncle (he was about 20 years older than my grandmother--she was the youngest of my great-grandparents kids he the oldest) who I met maybe twice in my life during family reunions and such that smoked a pipe. I can't seem to recall what he smoked either. He passed on before I was seven or eight so my memories of him are fuzzy at best.

Welcome from Orlando! Glad there’s another pipe smoker in town. No tobacconists around here that I’ve been able to find over the last 20 years. There are a few places that have pipe in their name but they’re just head shops. The closest proper shop I can remember was over in Lakeland. Edward’s I think?? Not sure if it’s still there.

Thanks for the info. I was up at the Corona in Lake Mary a few weeks ago and they still had Dunhill branded tins. . . I think next time we're on the gulf side again try to hunt those places down.

Yea, not too many pipe smokers around. I have a friend that'll smoke his pipe every 20 times we go out for cigars and another out in Mt. Dora that's just getting into it along with me. My friend Fred was a long time pipe smoker, actually gifted me a nice Tinksy to get me started and just has been a tremendous help getting started.

Corona Cigars in the Dr. Phillips area had a few Dunhill tins last time I was there. There were no Dark Flake tins so I didn’t look twice.
