New Fountain Pen

Just ordered this. I have not bought a fountain pen in a while since I have been pouring any extra money that I have into tobacco.

I just could not pass on this one though. It is a Conklin All-American in Walnut with gunmetal appointments.

Very nice! What's the size of the nib?
I prefer metal barrel fountain pens, but they do tend to be more tiresome after a long session.

That's really nice. I use a Kaweco Sport with a medium gold nib. I'm simple like that, but it works well and is really light weight.

I ordered a fine. Its my first american fountain pen, but I assume their nib sizes are closer to European than Japanese.

I prefer fine for most writing. Especially when using both sides of paper. But mediums work for me most other times.

I'm not sure all the "appointments" could be made of gun metal, but they would be the pocket clip on the cap and the screw threads for the cap and other fittings around the nib, which would be made of some other metal I believe. I love writing with a fountain pen, but it is like an art project. Writing is such a compulsion, I need pens that write in rain and fire and over food grease and gravel. Usually this is a ballpoint like a Zebra or something else in that class, better than a bic but sold at the drugstore.

As far as gunmetal goes, it is like saying you have a pipe with an ivory stem. It is not literally made of ivory, but you're talking about the color and look of it.

And this case gunmetal is the way the metal looks, it's made to look like the bluish steel of a gun barrel.
