A lot of pipes need to have a cleaner or two run through it while smoking.

Building cake/carbon layer should not be a rushed process, especially in an uncoated chamber. New pipes should be smoked slowly and kept cool until forming a carbon layer, and depending on the pipe and how often smoked in between rests, can take months or years.

Looking at those pipe cleaners, that looks like someone cleaned out a dirty estate pipe.

You should always clean your pipe after you smoke it, running cleaners through it, wiping out the mortise if needed with a qtip as example, and wiping out the chamber with a paper towel.

Keep your vulcanite stem clean too, with cleaners, and don’t dip them in alcohol, rubbing or drinking, and run it through the stem. Keep the outside cleaned and oiled, or it might start tasting like sulfur down the road.
