When you continue to buy the wrong sized pipes for the tobaccos you smoke, then maybe you will get aggravated enough to do something about it and create a strict crtieria in which you will find much more enjoyment of your pipes.
I was done buying pipes years ago. The 7 that I own now will last my lifetime and then some. My advice to those that are aggravated by smoking a pipe is to find another activity :) Life's too short to be aggravated by something like smoking a pipe.

YMMV, OAC, no medical or legal advice given and every other disclaimer that anyone wishes to apply. nnnn

Bowl size and width has risen through the criteria as the years have rolled by. I struggle with big wide bowls and super free draws.

as a remark, the whole
This makes sense to me. The more constituent parts to a mixture, the greater should be the surface area of the burn, in order to burn as many constituent parts at once as possible.

I've thought of this before. I'm curious whether there are any other equally sensible pearls of wisdom out there?
This is by no way my own knowledge but just my experience after I read/saw/heard it somewhere, can't remember the source.

I've tried to make rules and get my pipe and tobacco fascination under control - but it never really did work for me, I like anything in the right context. For 15+ years I bought and sold a lot of pipes and tobaccos. It was quite a hobby -

In the end, I am a clencher... and I prefer a longer, straight stem pipe like a Canadian or Billiard -

I have had as many as 300+ tins and many bags of tobaccos in my collection at once that I never smoked... but I was always running out of Royal Yacht, Crushed White Burley and those perfumed Lakelands most everyone hates. Some Semois also...

I quite smoking pipes 2+ years ago after a scare with my heart and heart surgery - I sold all my tobacco and about 25 pipes.
My presence here has been scarce.

My Doctor told me pipes are fine in moderation now.

I may or may not buy a new pipe at some point... I have five really nice ones, five beaters, and some cobs. I have 5 tins, 3 pouches and a couple pounds of jarred stuff.

I am not prepared for the tobaccolypse - and I am counting on it never happening.

So to the OP, It's good to know what works better for you and what you want to avoid. It may change or grow...

Just recently found my perfect specs for a pipe when I purchased my Savinelli Punto Oro Gold , 106 shape. I am almost done saving for my next, but sand lasted instead of smooth. Lots of trial and error throughout the years. But here's mine!

  • Length: 5.36 in./136.14 mm.
  • Weight: 1.10 oz./31.18 g.
  • Bowl Height: 1.69 in./42.93 mm.
  • Chamber Depth: 1.44 in./36.58 mm.
  • Chamber Diameter: 0.79 in./20.07 mm.
  • Outside Diameter: 1.38 in./35.05 mm.
  • Stem Material: Acrylic
  • Shape: Billiard
Oh and I'm now selling all my other briars now. No need after finding perfection.
