I bought 5 as well. I missed the previous years, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I'll judge it on its own merits when it gets here, but I'll be curious what you all that have tried it before think.

No. It is limited production. I believe there is limited availability of high quality red Virginia leaf. It's likely there is some marketing hype to it as well. Why would they only sell 10,000 tins if they could sell 25,000? They're in the business to sell product and make money.

C&D has been increasing the number of tins produced each year, but still have a limited amount of the actual tobacco used, with last release being the final crop of the 2015 red Va's with the 10.49% sugar content.

For those of you that are hesitant to buy it because of the bandwagon, it is a damn fine blend and once the particular leaf runs out you're most likely to never get it again. This new crop, based on previous releases, will probably last a few more years. Once that crop goes out, Jeremy sources a new Va, which will ultimately be a different type.

I took the bait and bought 2 tins. Crossing my fingers. I took the bait when Sun Bear came out and wasn't all that impressed.
It’s a total toss-up. Of the two, I preferred this year’s Sun Bear to last year’s Carolina Red Flake. There’s no way to tell but to roll the dice.

Also to note, CRF and Sunbear are highly sought after blends in the pipe community. I can see it being akin to the way McClelland had a Christmas Cheer every year, albeit those blends were a different crop every year I believe (correct me if I'm wrong).

Nevertheless, in the future when Carolina Red Flake or Sunbear is no more, people will have wished they bought it. I'm all for optimism that it will continue for a decade more or so, but the long aged small batch blends will be desirable by then. Speaking of which, I have a tin of 1998 Christmas Cheer that I'm destined to open sometime within the next year.

I hope it sells out soon, my wallet cant take much more! ?

I ordered another 25 after having a bowl last night. I have been holding on to what I had already cellared for special occasions, but now that I have a crap ton I can smoke it more frequently. It's super good.

I know I won't regret it later.

Uh oh. Sprung for a few, but I've been on a red Virginia tear as of late. Delivery is today and I'm opening one up asap. If it's good, well, time to put a patina on the credit card.

Got into the C&D Carolina Red Flake. Good stuff and a bit unique among the red Va I've tried, but considering the price of over $100 per pound, I'll stash the remaining 10 tins back and focus on Samuel Gawith and Watch City for most of my Virginia cellaring.

Odd thing is out of the 11 tins I got, the plastic cap doesn't fit right on about half of them. I tried a couple plastic caps from other C&D tins and they fit fine on the CRF tins, so it seems an odd batch of the caps themselves and, thankfully, not the tins.
