Educate me. Does older briar tend to smoke better? Less resin and such?

Some swear by it but I've never noticed a difference.

Depends on the carver you talk with, but basically past a couple of years of seasoning, no. That said, where would piping be without the romance and lore?

Personally I like the blasts and the shaping of the stummels a lot. It's the bite zone, and to a lesser extent, the button that don't quite make it for me. But this will probably be somebody else's huckleberry.

In another thread, I had mentioned that Mrs. Cosmic had given me her perspective on what makes a "sexy" pipe, and all except the bent one would definitely pass her inspection. Hopefully they will release a few more bulldogs. I would love to have one of those in my collection.
