New Cellar Idea?

I saw this on a woodworking group. If these are air tight containers a person could have a well organized LARGE cellar. Probably not good to keep in the garage though lol

Once those are loaded up with heavy jars I would be afraid of cracking them hanging them from the top. My totes are stupid heavy.

For the record I would never consider this as an option. More of a joke. They do make some fairly air tight containers. Better than storing in a cabinet or loose in a closet. You would definitely need a shelf under the container. I’m not sure how you could store anything in these the way it’s pictured.

It would be great for storing empty totes. Lol.

Sterilite tubs. They lock into place when stacked, airtight seals, cheap but sturdy. Keeps everything labeled per box and organized. The stacking is good for extra closets or wherever. The rubber seal and latches are a plus.
It's my go to for tin storage

I use 9 totes about that size to hold hands of leaf tobacco for my blends. I like that idea to hold them. I just stack them now. Very good idea.

I use totes similar to these for my tins. When you open the tote you can smell tobacco, mostly from the square Sam Gawith tins, but also from the square older Dunhill Flake and Capstan tins. The round ones seem more intact.

That one in the op made with 2x4s. I would not use that for any tub weighing more than 20lbs. That setup is for storing clothes or blankets or Xmas decorations. Now set that shelf system up with metal warehouse shelving, the you'd have something.

I suppose a few inches are saved by foregoing shelves, and the cost of the plywood. That being said, why not just have just shelves? Much more versatile

I have several of those "Commander" tubs that we use to store crap in.

Every single one of them has cracked to some degree with anything over 30lbs in it. And they all cracked around the rolled "lip" that are resting on those 2x4s.

There's no way I would trust this setup with tins or jars of tobacco.

I guess if you didn’t want to use plywood and make a full shelf you could probably use a single 2x4 in the center of each tote under it. I still don’t know if I trust the particular totes pictured.
