Now if they could just start producing it in the quantity that the public demands, we might all be able to get some without having to beg for it.

I'll try th new blend and judge it non its own merits. I had smoked many tins of the original and liked it. Was it the best thing ever? No, but it was good. I have to believe that a 30 year old tin will not be like a new tin regardless of the blend; otherwise, why cellar at all?

I think Russ' Black House is very good but Magnum Opus is much better. Again, personal taste.

Puffing on some Balkan Sasieni as I read this thread and if the new Sobranie is even remotely close to how good the current Sasieni is, I'll be impressed.

I wish I had the gift of writing bacci reviews to compare attempts to

Recreate the orig. 759, so go easy on me as I will try:
Orig 759: I was lucky enough to have a few bowls gifted to me and

I must say this blend is fantastic IMO, moisture levels where perfect

and I just packed up a bowl and off I went into pure smoke'in bliss: smooth,

rich, subtle sweet with spice from the Turkish and long finish...got nice

char-broiled bacon cheeseburger (yum) in/out at about half-way point. I have

smoked dozens if Balkan blends and nothing has really hit close to

this one for me...thanks go out again to piper who sent it out to me,

I'm glad I had the chance to sample such a great blend in my lifetime :)
BlackHouse: is another fantastic attempt to recreate but something

wasn't there IMO to the orig, because of my lack of bacci review skill :-(

I can't seem to nail it down, but this is one is something to stock up

on for sure!
Blue Mountain: I have to still try out, everytime I got the TAD it is

Out-of-stock for me which is the reason I keep miss'in it, gonna snag

some asap to finish my compare of all three

I was lucky enough to aquire a tin of the reissue of original Sobranie. I am primarily an English smoker and have smoked most of the heavy English/Balkan blends available, I have not ever been able to smoke a tin of the original Balkan Sobranie though. I prefaced my opinion to est. that I am no stranger to Balkan blends. I found the new issue pale and unimpressive, it seemed like a slightly spicier EMP or Squadron Leader. Those are good tobaccos but not the stuff of 30 years of legend. I expected my pipe to be filled with ecstasy, instead my pipe was filled with regret.

A have a tin, it tastes OK, maybe a little bland? The infuriating thing is it burns to such a fine ash, it clogs all of my pipes mid-smoke, requiring a pipe cleaner to clear the draft hole. I've never had to do that.
The wife works occasionally in Annapolis, and picked up a few ounces of their English #2 blend from the Smoke Shop (article on the shop on this site). It was advertised a mix duplicating the original Sobranie. It smokes far better than the new blend and no clearing issues. I'll have her pick up a proper supply no her next trip.

Just a heads-up... Mars Cigars has Balkan Sobranie listed as "In Stock". Just an FYI!
