New baby pipe gift?

My wife and I recently found out that she is pregnant with our first child (after almost 6 years of trying)! We are beyond excited and I already know I will be whipped from the beginning.
But, I was thinking the other day...what is a good "It's a Boy" / "It's a Girl" gift for pipe smokers? I have become a bit of a pipe smoker over the past few years. My family and friends know this, and a few of them also partake in pipe smoking.
So, I was trying to figure out a good birth gift for them rather than the traditional, smoke-it-or-keep-it, generic cigars. I can't think of anything.
What did y'all do? Stick with traditional cigars (though, if I do this I will go with a nicer brand than the generic Swishers)? I don't recall ever seeing "It's a Boy / Girl" tobacco blends. I thought about color died corncobs, but I've never seen any, and am not sure they would be ok to smoke.
Any ideas?

You should buy yourself a new Dunhill pipe. It's the last thing you'll buy for youself in a WHILE, but also as it's date coded to your child's birth year, it'll be a keepsake you'll have forever.

A year pipe would be my first choice. A Dunhill preferably, but they're expensive so a Stanwell, Savinelli or any other brand you like the design for the year in question of is nice.

A year pipe is a cool idea. However.. have you considered checking into getting tobacco with a special label ? Perhaps get two dozen tins of the tobacco of your choice and see if you can special label them. Something like "Annie's blend" (or whatever name you decide for you firstborn). You can hand some out and then let the others cellar and open one each year.
Don't know of anyone who does that though... I may have found a new market ;-)
C&D has usually been really helpful. If you have a preferred blend with them, perhaps give them a call.

I'm in the process of designing a commission to commemorate the birth of our second child in July this year.

I use to work for a wine shop and many wine snobs would buy a bottle of wine of the kids birth year. Some would buy a case in "futures" and save it for the kids 21'st birth day. Then open a bottle each birth day after.
You might just buy a bottle of scotch and a few tins. Then invite the boys over to celebrate?
We have a baby due in June and I'm the only tobacco smoker. I have a feeling if I invite the guys over to celebrate they will bring "medicinal" smoke and that would not go over so well with the mother in law. :lol:

I think the idea of a birth year pipe is as good as any, but heres something else to consider: Get yourself a tin of a good Virginia tobacco. The only reason I suggest Virginias is because they age very well, or so I am told. Snag it now, and throw it in your cellar. Don't pop it open until your child turns 18. 18 years of aging is going to make for one amazing smoke. Assuming, of course, that you can wait that long :wink:

I appreciate all the suggestions and help, but I think you're missing the mark...
I'm looking for something to hand out to everyone else when the baby is born, in lieu of the traditional cigars. And I certainly am not buying everyone else a pipe unless I can find cheap(ish) corn cobs that are dyed (if you can even do that).

I would avoid the cheap it's a boy/girl cigars. Stick with a nice mild cigar that won't blow peoples heads off. Tie a pink or blue ribbon holding a picture and the babies stats. I would do a mild Davidoff, Ashton or Macanudo. I saved a couple of my kids Davidoff birth cigars, they have been quietly aging for 20 years waiting for a wedding or birth of a grandchild in the future. 8O

When my brother had his son, he got nice Punch cigars for a select few and the cheaper ones to hand out to people he didn't hang with all that much.
